— Forecast, don't track
See what's coming.
Sounder projects every bank account forward, day by day — from the income and bills you describe once, so you see shortfalls before they happen.
16 days of water, then the bed comes up on 17 Jan and stays up until a transfer clears it on 21 Jan.
You describe: salary, rent, power, the daycare bill. Sounder draws the depth ahead. You see what’s coming before pay day — with time to change course.
— The difference
Budgeting apps look back.
Sounder reads ahead.
Every other app asks you to record what you already spent. Sounder shows you what you’ll have — so you can act while it still matters.
The monthly chore
Record what you already spent, tidy it up, and read a report about a month that has already gone.
✕ Reconcile last month
✕ Learn what already happened
✕ Find out too late to change it
The way ahead
Tell Sounder your income and regular bills a single time. It projects every account forward from there.
→ See it before it happens
→ Every account, every day
→ Know when you’ll be short
— How it works
Set it up once. Then just look.
Every sounding starts with the tide — the money that comes and goes on a rhythm. Here’s the whole app, with real numbers from a two-income household.
Describe your money
Add your income and regular bills a single time. Anchor a bill to your pay day, not a fixed date — so daycare comes out the day after you're paid, every time.
See every account, day by day
Watch each account's depth across the week, month, or year — and your clearance before zero, in days. Keep money in a jar for the big annual bills and the forecast shows only what is left as Free, so the number you see is the number you can use. Reconcile to your bank's real figure any time, and the whole forecast realigns.
Know exactly when debts clear
Add each debt's interest and balance once. Sounder projects the payoff and tells you the month you'll be debt-free. Plot a course: what happens if you put in $100 more a week?
— What it models
Built for the way money
actually arrives.
Real life isn’t a monthly average. Sounder handles the timing that makes or breaks a week.
Bills that follow your pay day
Anchor an expense to income rather than a calendar date, so fortnightly pay and a monthly bill stop drifting out of step.
Every account, apart and together
Everyday, bills, savings — each projected on its own line and summed into one seabed. You see which account runs dry, not just that something did.
Debts with a real payoff date
Interest and balance in, a month out. Switch between avalanche and snowball and watch the runway move.
A reserve you can’t spend by accident
Hold back a slice of the year’s bills. The forecast treats it as already gone, so the number you see is the number you can use.
Households, shared properly
Two people, two incomes, one forecast. Everyone sees the same picture; only the owner sees the billing.
Reconcile in one number
Type what your bank actually says. Sounder folds the difference in and the forecast carries on from the truth.
— What we do with your money data
Four things you can go
and check for yourself.
Every claim below links to the clause in our Privacy Policy that backs it. Where there is an exception, we name it.
You decide what we hold
Sounder works from what you type in — the income, bills and balances you choose to describe. There is no imported ledger of your spending here, and we never hold a credential that could move money.
What we actually holdEncrypted before it is stored
Your figures are encrypted under a key tied to your household, so the database holds ciphertext rather than balances. One exception, which we would rather name than hide: an administrator signing in with their own multi-factor account can unlock your data to restore access if you lose both your password and your recovery key.
How the encryption worksAI is optional, and it says so
Chat and insights are on by default and switch off in Settings whenever you like. While they are on, a snapshot of your figures is sent to answer the question — to providers contractually barred from training on it or keeping it.
AI and your dataLeave with everything
Download your whole household as a file whenever you want, and delete the account outright. Deleting removes the records themselves, not just your access to them.
Retention and deletion— Pricing
One plan. No surprises.
→ As many accounts as you keep
→ Card required at signup, first charged after day 14
→ Cancel anytime, keep your data
— Beta
Sounder is invite-only right now.
We're bringing on a small number of households while we finish the beta. Leave your details and we'll email you when there's a place.
— About
Made to answer one question.
Sounder is a small New Zealand tool with a single job: will I be okay before pay day?
It grew out of a plain frustration. Every budgeting app was a very good record of a month that had already gone — and not one of them could answer the question that actually mattered: whether the rent would clear next week.
So we built the opposite. A sounder is the instrument that reads the depth of water ahead of the hull, so a vessel doesn’t run aground. This is the same instrument for your bank balance: describe your money once, and see the depth ahead — every account, every day, weeks out.
